As some of you may know, I have a Talk 21 e-mail account, which has for the last three years, remained virtually spam free.  Talk 21 is run by BT, and they have recently decided that too much of a good thing is not what people want, so are splitting the service into a 'Basic' webmail account, or a 'Premium' account with POP3 access, at a cost of £1.50 per month.  I will probably go for the Premium account, as it's not really a lot of money (although I disagree in principal with paying for e-mail), and it would be less hassle than to change my e-mail address, which is the one I use for my online shopping, registrations, etc.

Could it be a coincidence, therefore, that I am suddenly getting loads of spam in this account (which at the moment is still free), and that the new 'Premium' service offers 'a premium junkmail blocker'?  Would it be beyond the bounds of possibility, I wonder, that this new influx of spam is being generated in order to coerce account holders to sign up for the 'pay' service?   ::)

Well well well.  How interesting!  I have always been a btinternet customer and around a year ago they asked if I would like to sign up to a new service which would offer free spam filtering and virus checking.  I agreed and I was pleasantly surprised that my spam was cut considerably.

A couple of months ago they asked me to change my account to BTYahoo and I refused.  I began receiving an absolute deluge of spam again (up to 300 a day!)  This week, I had an e-mail from them to say that I was being switched to BTYahoo whether I liked it or not.  Guess what?  My spam is back down to a very manageable 20 a day.

Like Clive BT have made me switch to BT Yahoo now for e-mails and webspace  >:(
I'm finding the spam filter is too efficiant I'm not getting e-mails that should be coming through.
As for having to use Geocities for my webspace...I cant link my pictures to most places  :-\

I don't think I'm getting half my mail either GK.  There is supposed to be a folder that I can view which contains all the deleted spam but I'm damned if I can find it!  Still, one mustn't look a gift horse in the mouth.   ;D
