I just switched my motherboard with another PC because my current motherboard had no AGP. All is fine except for one thing, it can't recognise the on-board media (sound) device and as i have no driver disk or media description, i dont know what driver/controller to download and install. Any advise on what to do? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Scotty_CFC

Can you see the make and model number, including revision number if possible.
If you can tell us which one it is we should be able to tell you where to get the drivers for it.
The drivers maybe different depending on which OS you are using too, so if you let us know that as well please.
Is it showing the yellow ? in Device Manager next to the multimedia part or not displaying it at all in there  
XP is usually quite good at finding the drivers by itself, providing that the onboard sound is enabled in the bios

No, i've looked all over the mother board for the type of device it holds. In the device manager its an exclamation mark and in sound options it wont let me do anything because (as far as the pc is concerned) it dont exist. I'll try bios setup, i need to turn it off anyway because i need to put the rest of the screws in and put the cover back on.

It wont say which soundcard is onboard on the motherboard itself but it should have a model number for the motherboard itself, this usually has the manufactures name incorporated in it, eg MS**** for an MSI board or AS****** for an Asus one

Well BIOS didnt work... Near the audio ports, theres "FB17FB16C76 FNT Audio", um... is that what you mean?

I downloaded it and i got a "none detected" under audio.

Dont look for audio or anything like that, just the mothernoard model, we can look it up from from the manufacturers site itself if you can find out the make and model number.
Its usually, but not always, between the pci slots.

The number you mentioned doesnt appear to be the motherboard number

if the mobo came out of a HP pavillion or a Compaq PC then this may identy it :

 With the computer turned on, press and hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys, then press the S key on the keyboard. An informatoin dialog will be displayed. The information dialog contains the Model and Serial number of the computer:

If that gives a model number then we can search the HP site for the mobo drivers for it which will include the multimedia ones as well

I held down ctrl and alt... pressed S and nothing happened. Tryed it in different combos but still nothing, the motherboard did come out of a HP pc though.

Are you on XP or 98 or the dreaded ME by the way

It came from a pavillion 400. Im downloading something, it might work, its from the HP site.

Ok, strange how that didnt find them itself, hopefully you will get the audio drivers now as they will be the AC 97 ones probably.
I have to go out soon so I wont be able to reply for a bit but hopefully your problem will be solved by the time I get back on
