Ashampoo Win Optimizer
« on: March 14, 2004, 09:16 »

I dont know if anyone here is using this-but be wary of it! I downloaded a trial version, and wouldnt recommend it. It is supposed to be foolproof if you use it on the default setting. It stripped out a load of files from my Outlook, resulting in me running a repair.
I dont like it at all. If you want a good programme of this type try System Mechanic 4, far superior.

Fair enough. just goes to show that what suits one PC dosent suit another. Maybe its because Ive got a copy of Outlook 2003 with (cough)   extended trial!

I have a system full of extended trial software.  When I tried AShampoo, it made such a mess of my system that I ended up doing a format.

Another program to be wary of is RegSupreme.  The bloody thing completely stripped my user.dat file, which is one of the two files that make up the registry in Windows 98SE.  Fortunately, I was able to restart at the C:\ prompt, run Scanreg, and restore the previous day's registry.

Programs like that can  be lethal at times.   >:(
