Partition disappeared
« on: April 04, 2004, 14:18 »
Hi all,

After having set the first partition of my second hdd as active partition, and made it a « BOOT » partition in the Bios, I installed (restored) the image of « C » partition on it which I did with the help of « Drive Image 2002 » program.

Everything worked fine after that, and the image worked too. But I noticed that my second partition on that second hdd doesn?t appear anymore in the window ?My Computer?, which means that I have no more access to it. Though it appears in the window ?Task manager?, but I have no option apart of formatting it. Is also mentioned its free and used size there.

I wiped and formatted again the first partition of my second drive (where I restored the image), and made the setting of my pc like before. That didn?t change anything.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Is your hard drive bigger than 137 gig Joudi ?
If you put XP on without also installing service pack 1, there is a  problem with XP not seeing any more than 137 gig.
If you boot from your C drives OS could you see and access the partition on your second hard drive, before you re formatted it ?

OUFFFF  SORTED

Here is the site and the free download program which helped me for that. Just look on the left side and get that program for free and you can see everything on your hard disks:

   http://www.boot-us.com/screensh.htm

you can even do things which you can't do in the ordinary "Partition Magic" or ¨XP" itself.

Good chance to all.   :)

what was the problem in the end?

There's no problem in the end. It was in the beginning Ket.   ;)

Well, the problem was that one of my drives' partitions has disappeared (became "Hidden partition"), and I was no more able to have acces to it while it was still there (in the window "Task Manager" but not in the window "My Computer").

Now, it's sorted and I can have acces to it and use it.

I think that it had assigned the drive as something that the normal windows OS couldnt see Ket, which was ok on the first time that Joudi booted from it.
When he rebooted it and went onto his original C drive with his original XP OS, it somehow made it a hidden partition, which from what I have read usually only happens if it has allocated it as another C drive so as it cant use 2 x C drives it then hides the second one, although Joudi said that it didnt assign a drive letter.
Using a boot manager program allowed it to reassign the second "C" drive as something else and allowed it to be "seen" again even after he uninstalled the boot manager program.
Does that make sense to you Ket  ???
