Topic: Spyware Blaster Alternative?

Spyware Blaster is an excellent tool for preventing spyware from infesting your computer, and leaves programs like Ad Aware and Spybot with little to do, but, as with all three of these tools, it needs manually updating to remain effective.

I am possibly going to upgrade a friends machine from Wi98 to XP, but they are not likely to manually update Spyware Blaster, even if I install it, because it is mainly hidden from view, and works in the background.  They are not computer addicts, and just want it to work with minimal effort.  

I'm looking for a free alternative to Spyware Blaster, with an automatic update feature - any suggestions?

Spyblaster have a new version out and it includes an auto update facility, but you have to pay for that. I don't know whats up with programmers these days, always wanting paying for their work

It is only a scanner but what else is free these days, it has an update facility to keep up with all the updates and is very useful if you think you have an Trojan or Malware etc.

I'm sure that your question wasn't merely ignored.  I had a delve, but couldn't find anything remotely like SpywareBlaster, and I suspect nobody else could too.

Is the new version worth having a look at, or is it just a bloated version of 2.61?

Well, I would say the new version is worth looking at.  Even if you don't pay for the auto update feature, it looks prettier!    Also, the old version will no longer update, so you'll have to get version 3 at some point anyway.  Just to clarify, if you don't want to pay for the auto update facility, you can just use it like the old version, and manually update.  I also noticed that the new version offers more prominent support for Mozilla / Firefox, so it must be better!
