No sound on my computer
« on: March 12, 2004, 20:30 »
I bought this computer :
Dell OptiPlex GX110
Processor: Intel PIII 800 MHz
Video: Integrated Intel Direct AGP 4MB
Sound: Sound Blaster Compatible
10/100 On-Board Network Card
OS: No Operating System Included.

I installed Win98 but I found I have no sound. I tried to install audio drivers from Dell internet but they won't install telling me the O/S won't support the software. ???
Do you think it has onboard sound or would I have to get a sound card?
Does anyone have any suggestions? :-\
Thanks for your help. :)

Did you get a motherboard CD?  The sound drivers are usually on them, if you have onboard sound.

Simon I reckon the PC was bought off Ebay or the like, from a firm that shifts used leased machines. I doubt very much you get any CD's with such machines. Easy way out if there are no compatiable drivers for Win98, is indeed to by a soundcard.

If the machine still has it's Dell Asset Tag, you can go to the Dell website, enter the tag number in the box provided and get a list of all the drivers, updates etc available for that particular model of machine.

You can probably find drivers just by model no. too, but I haven't tried ::)

Hi Terry, and

If you know the make and model of your soundcard, you could try www.driverguide.com, or post the details on here and we'll have a look for you.   :)

If your sound is attached to your motherboard (rather than a separate sound card), and you have the original motherboard CD, you'll find the drivers on there.
