I bow to your superior knowledge Adept but Esley said earlier "in the bios, under the MAIN tab it says primary master-- 40982 " Doesnt this mean that the Bios is detecting the drive after all?
I found this site for Phoenix Bios
http://www.phoenix.com/en/support/bios+support/awardbios/bios+faqs.htm#BIOSTOPNot sure if it will help as it doesnt give any specific settings or displays, but it says how to restore to its default setting which may help:
PhoenixBIOS -- On a computer with a PhoenixBIOS, you can press the F9 key in Setup
to restore the default values specified by the manufacturer.
As you think it is a Maxtor Drive then a diagnostic utility (Powermax.exe) is available for downloading onto a floppy from their site:
http://maxtor.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/maxtor.cfg/php/enduser/olh_adp.php?p_faqid=590I hope you get to the bottom of this soon ( I need my sleep
)and apologise for sending you multiple copies of the same message last night as it appears they did go but werent showing as going on my page
Good luck
Edited to add: Can someone make the Phoenix link work properly please?
If no one has you will have to copy and paste it all in your address bar
