Topic: Need Help with KERNEL32.dll

Hi there,
I hope I'm posting in the right place! I'm having some trouble and any help would be appriecated! I've been trying to install some software, any software that is, as I've tryed several different programs,and it has something to do with running cd's in the cd-rom as well because that won't work either, but only programs for some reason, audio cd's work fine.

Everytime time I double click on a setup file (setup.exe) I get the following error.....

"The procedure entry Query PrefobmanceFrequency could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll "

The really wierd thing is that the word "Preformance" is misspelled in the error message, I'm not the best speller, but I'm pretty sure that "Prefobmance" isn't a word. I could be wrong tho.

Sounds like it may be a virus, have you updated your AV definitions and done a scan, preferably in safe mode and if using ME with system restore turned off

Thanks!! Sorry for my lack of details, I've never ran into any problems like this before and not sure what's needed really. I'm not sure if that error is a "Invaild Page Fault", "General Protection Fault" or a "Stack Fault". Although I'm not entirly sure that if I did know if it would help any. ha-ha.

Just wondering if you found it odd that a word was misspelled, It's is a windows Xp error isn't it? I'd like to think a multi-million dollor software company would have a spell checker. Could it be virus maybe?
