Hi,
Ive acquired some AVIs that are in DivX/XviD format that i need to convert to MPEG2 before i can burn them do a DVD.. Problem is that i keep getting an error: "Cant find a codec for your AVI file, please make sure you have installed an appropriate codec!"

I have installed the K-Lite Codec Pack (full) which contains the DivX and XviD codecs plus a lot more, but i still cant convert - Any ideas?

Does it not say which specific codec it requires

4CC: divx/dx50

The DivX 5.1.1 pro codec was installed along with the XviD Mpeg-4 codec and 3ivx D4 4.5.1 video codec by the K-Lite codec pack

Check that the DivX 5.1 pro hasnt installed Gaitor as thats usually bundled with it in the free downloads Adam  

I think you need Gordian Knot to install the 4CC DivX/DX50

I have seen a download for it somewhere as a zip file called All DIVX and CODECS for Windows Media Player (Will play ALL movies)

Let me know if you cant find it in the places that you usually visit and I will see if I can find it again

It sounds like you should have the correct codecs installed but it may not be detecting them properly Adam  

I came across this, so check that out before we look any deeper into it

  What causes this problem?
The Player application, bundled free with the DivX codec, can under certain circumstances report that you need to install a new codec to play video files with FourCC 'DX50', 'DIVX', 'DIV4', or 'DIV3'. In fact these are the FourCC codes for DivX video, for which The Player contains a built-in decoder. In these cases the error is actually caused because hardware acceleration is unavailable on the primary video adapter.
How can I correct this problem?
To correct this problem:
Close all open media players, netmeeting, webcamera software etc. before launching The Player.
Open the Display Properties control panel, from the Settings tab click the Advanced button, from this Advanced page click Troubleshoot and ensure the Hardware Acceleration slider is set to Full.
Ensure you have the correct drivers installed for your graphics card. To obtain drivers or driver updates consult the website of your graphics card manufacturer.

I have checked graphics acceleration is set the maximum, im now downloading the latest video card drivers from nVidia to see if that will help  

EDIT: Just read this on the K-Lite Codec Pack forum:

DivX 5.2 has been released a few days ago. Too bad that the encoder contains some nasty bugs. Updated codec packs with the DivX 5.2 decoder are expected to be released soon.

Maybe this is why its not decoding, because the DivX player isnt having any problems
