Topic: Average Machine Specifications

what would yall consider 2004s average machine as far as home and business uses are concerned. Has the average become last years top of the line? Ive been thinking 40gigs was more than enough for anyone, but my local stores aren't stocking anything below 80gs nowadays. My friends already toying with his new 200g. With the introduction of the 64bit processors their putting out games that require that speed now. I want to know what yalls perception of average pcs are at this point in time.

Unless you intend to store movie libraries on your hard drive, instead of sensibly burning them to DVDs, I don't see the need for a huge hard drive.  Surely, the bigger the hard drive, the longer they take to defrag, or format, if you have to?  I have a 40Gb, which I have had for nearly 2 years, and it's still less than half full.

I think that most people keep their computers longer than they used to Bob.  I always changed mine every 2 years to keep up with the latest specs but unless you are a gamer I don't think there is a great deal of advantage in doing so any more.  I have a 3 year old 1.9 Athlon and a 2 year old 2.2 Athlon.
