Hi all,
       I am trying to install sonicstage, but it appears that somehow installshield is not on my pc any longer any advice?

If I re-install windows xp from scratch, it says that I will lose all personall files, does this mean everything that is currently stored on my pc? music,pics etc...

I believe that if you do a repair rather than an complete re-instal it saves your programs.

Hopefully one of the grown up techies will back this up soon

Hi Nilsatis,

You would need to back up any personal files, pics, music, bookmarks / favourites, address books, etc, before you consider reinstalling Windows.  As Hookstar said, I don't think a 'Repair' installation will wipe all your files, but it's always best to err on the side of caution.

What's the problem?  Maybe you don't actually need to repair of reinstall Windows?  We have several techies who may be able to help you.

As Hooky said choose R when you reinstall and it wont format your C drive but give you the option to repair your installation

Cheers guys, I am not too clever on the pc, but the problem is that I cannot install anything, the message I keep getting is - InstallShield engine(ikernel.exe) could not be launched, error loading type library/DLL

there could be another possibility on your PC.

How many partition does your hard drive have?

If it has more than the partition which probably is called "Local Disk C", (maybe you have "D" and "E" too), then you can transfer your important files (images, music, etc...) to one of those other partitions. In that case, you can even reformat your partition "C" completely without losing your important files which are saved already on another. And you can make a new "Windows" installation ON THE PARTITION "C" itself. (attention not to make the mistake by installing it on another partition).

Do a search for each of these files using the Start/Search feature, one file at a time.

Stdole32.tlb
Stdole2.tlb
Stdole.tlb

If any are missing or not showing as in %SystemRoot%\System32

Put your XP cd in your CD drive.
If it aouto runs cancel the window that appears.
Go to start/Run and type in the box cmd.exe and click ok.
A Dos window will appear.

This assumes that your CD drive is D, if it is a different letter change the d in CD /d C:\ to the correct letter.
Type :  CD /d C:\  then hit the enter button.
This will then change to a new line starting with C:\

Depending which file is missing then type either
Expand <CD-ROM Drive:>\I386\stdole32.tl_ %SystemRoot%\System32
Or
Expand <CD-ROM Drive:>\I386\stdole2.tl_ %SystemRoot%\System32
Or
Expand <CD-ROM Drive:>\I386\stdole.tl_ %SystemRoot%\System32

After typing that line hit enter again.
You must type it exactly as written with all the spaces and punctuation marks, upper and lower case dont matter though.
Unfortunately you cant copy and paste in dos so just type carefully.
If you need to add 2 or all 3 files then repeat the process for each extra file

Thanks Sandra, the file that is missing is the 32 one, I do not have a cd but a floppy and it just keeps crashing, when I try to do it.

How were you proposing to re-install XP, without a CD?  If you have a Recovery CD, the files may or may not be on there.  If you have niether come back to us, and maybe the files you need could be found elsewhere.

I dont have a cd, what I was given was a floppy with Multimedia keyboard driver for windows xp and a cd with system driver/ software library and factory reset.

Try putting the cd with system driver/ software library and factory reset in your cd drive, when it trys to run stop it and use the Start/Search to look on the cd for that file.
