Downloading MPEG's change to MP2
« on: August 30, 2004, 20:41 »
When I start to download a mpeg or mpg file it automatically changes to a mp2 file while getting file info. This seemed to start happening after I installed and reinstalled Realplayer 10. I am using windows ME. Can someone help me with this?

I havent heard of an mp2 so dont really know what it is  ???
I would recommend that anyone with real player uninstalls it and uses Real Alternative in its place though as real player is almost as bad a kazaa for bringing unwanted stuff with it that usually causes problems   :(

renshaw8,

I'm not sure that the problems are coming to you from "RealPlayer 10". I have it installed on my PC and I like it.

I had before, the precedent version of Real. It didn't work correctly, and it caused some troubles to me. Now, I'm very happy to have this new version of Real 10. But the difference between me and you is that my system is XP. Anyway, probably you have to search the cause of the problem somewhere else. Or, try to uninstall RealPlayer and restart your PC, then reinstall it again.

I'll add and confirm what Sandra told. That I didn't hear about MP2. That file type doesn't exist in RealPlayer 10.

Sandra, I didn't have any adds because of this program. While installing it, you need of course not to accept their adds. For me, it's a good program. Add to that, that some internet sites need this program to be used for their specific files.

Real Alternative plays everything that Real Player does Joudi including streaming radio over the net without trying to take control of al your media files.
Quick Alternative is another good one in place of Quicktime, both are much smaller/cleaner programs than the standard ones  :)

Yes Sandra, but RealPlayer 10 is more beautiful (to the eyes) than real alternative and Quick.    ;)

Thank you Sandra and Joudi,
In realplayer under tools/content/media type, Advanced, you can scroll down to (other media types) and see MP2.

You're right renshaw8

Yes, I found "MP1, MP2, MP3 and even MP4" in "RealPlayer 10", Which probably don't exist in "Real Alternative"    ;)

Well, then, it's time for Sandra to install this program to be able to be a teachie in its' domain too.  If not, I can try to overpass her, (which she must not accept, normally).   ;)

Merci Joudi, mais je laisse il pour toi ;)
Peut etre tu aimes Real Player mais pas moi  :)

It looks like MP2 is another music file format and can be played in winamp which can also convert it to .wav if thats preferable, according to this :
