Can't get rid of this software!
« on: September 11, 2004, 23:06 »
Hi. Sorry to bother yous again!
I have XP.
I installed this thing for my phone, Easy GPRS. THEN I read the instruction booklet and realised that I had done it wrong. So I uninstalled it and that was fine. I tried to install it again but I don't think it worked properly. I think my computer crashed but I can't really remember. Anyway, it didn't get installed properly so I thought I'd uninstall it again and start over, only now I can't get rid of it!
When I put in the cd, it gives me options: Repair or remove. I tried repair first, but nothing changed so I tried remove. It didn't remove it. I saw it in  all programs  in the start menu so I right-clicked and went to delete, then searched for it and deleted everything I could find.
But when I put in the cd, the same thing came up as before.
Then I went to add or remove programs but when I clicked "change/remove" it just took me back to the repair/remove thing which I tried anyway but of course didn't work.
I really want to install it again! Is there anything else I can try? Thanks!!
(I should have read the intructions the first time)

Hi Lindsay,

I would be inclined to do a system restore back to before you installed it and try again.  :)

Hi Lindsay, have you deleted the program folder in C\: Program Files?  You could go to Start Menu > Search, and search for any files with GPRS in the title, and that might find some more for you.  Make sure you go to the More Advanced Options, and tick the 'Search for Hidden Files and Folders' box, in case some of the files are hidden in Application Data folders.

As always, before you delete any files, make certain that you know what they are.  ;)

Edit:- Lona beat me to it, with probably a far better suggestion!  ;D

Heh, there's probably crap stuck in the registry as well. If system restore doesn't work, download a program to clean up your registry.

I don't know any good ones, you have to pay for most of them. Anybody else know?  :-\

That happens many times for other applications too, not only this one.

Smetimes while removing, it tells you that it's used by another person or another program. Well, some other times, it is necessary to have a look on the "system tray" (beside the clock) to exit the application if you find any traces of it there.

I use this little program called Tweak now Reg cleaner, it was on a cover of Windows XP Magazine.

Link Here

As with all Registration actions Back up 1st  ;)

The Registry is a heart and soul of any Windows system. It contains information that controls how your Windows appears and how it behaves. Most applications today use registry to store configuration and other important data. When you install an application, a new registry entries will be created. This entries will automatically be deleted when you uninstall the application. Unfortunately, it is not always work that way. Sometimes, you will find that some applications fail to remove their own registry entries. This entry will become obsolete.

After a long period, after installing and uninstalling a lot number of applications, your Windows registry will contain a large number of obsolete entries. This will significantly increase the registry size and thus will slowdown your computer, because Windows will need more time to load, search, and read data from registry.

To keep your computer in top performance, it is recommended to periodically clean your Windows registry.

Why using TweakNow RegCleaner?

Fast: using a high performance engine, TweakNow RegCleaner quickly scan your registry to find obsolete entries.
Accurate: using complex algorithm TweakNow RegCleaner accurately identify obsolete entries.
Secure: TweakNow RegCleaner automatically create backup file before deleting obsolete entries from your registry.

You're sorted now, but if anyone is interested, the original Regcleaner (which was scrapped in favour of the awful JT16 Power Tools) is available again.
