Topic: Create a Desktop Shortcut to Lock Your Computer

Ok guys, let's see if this function is the one which I was asking for, two days ago:

Here it is:

You secure your computer by locking it whenever you're away from your desk. If you're on a domain, by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del and then clicking Lock Computer, you can prevent unauthorized users from gaining access to your computer. Only you and members of the Administrators group on your computer can unlock it. (You unlock it by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, typing your password, and then clicking OK.)

To create an even quicker means of securing your computer, place a shortcut on your desktop to lock your computer:

? Right-click an open area of your desktop, point to New, and then click Shortcut.

? In the Location box, type:

%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

? Click Next, in the Name box type a name for the shortcut such as, Lock Computer, and then click Finish.


Here, I need your help:

When pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, it didn't give me the option of "Lock Computer" anywhere. No place to make a "PassWord" neither. I even tried the "Lock" buttons of the keyboard, it didn't work.

Can you understand how to get that function?

You might be pleased to know, it didn't work for me either, Joudi.  No 'Lock Computer' option here either.  At least you know it's not you!

You can hit "Windows Key + L" at the same time to go to the logon screen.

The shortcut you mentioned is just a longer way of doing this.

I don't know about the ctrl-alt-del thing...

Locking is just the same as pressing "Switch User" (Start>Log Off>Switch User) - You are still logged in, just your on the log in screen... This only works in Windows XP (I think)

Ok...In that case, if I'm making a download in my session, and I log to a different user, will the download continue in my principal (first) session?

i think i know wot you mean about pressing ctrl + alt + del, as on the system we have in school it can be done an some ppl like to do it and leave the comp locked. i dont know how to get it on other systems though
