That would be a good idea Cammy, providing that opening the case yourself and fitting extras in doesnt invalidate the guarantee, as that would be more useful than a basic floppy.
Does anyone know how warranties are affected by adding your own bits as I have never had the luxury of being able to afford to buy a brand new complete pc  ???

My HP is still under warranty Sandra and it's written into the policy that you can't add bits or you invalidate it.

I think what Lona says is the general way it is when you buy a new PC, but that wouldn't stop me tinkering   :splat: ;D

At least when you build one you have warranty on all the individual parts  ;)

I STILL haven't got my new puter, I just can't decide what to get, my spec got too much and the price zoomed up to almost £2000 - so I've gotta drop the spec a bit, and now I've heard bad things about dell and mesh! lol  I guess they all have their bad points.

does anyone know if its true that Dells customer service are abroad now?

I'd like to just get one from PC World but the graphics cards in there's aren't as good as I'd want.

Anyone got any other good company's I could try?

Thanks Cammy, didn't see anything exciting there though.

Its that ebay its calling me.

You can get a £2000 for £1200. Its just that it could be a load of @&*# with no upgrading available and no support.

Its the monitor and the graphics card that are doing me, they are £600 on their own, or close anyway

Okay keeping searching.

I've no idea what motherboard I should be prefering, any idea's?

You know what your problem is Shell....You don't know what you want because you don't really have a clue what you need  ::)

You just assume you need the latest "kick arse premium priced" bit of kit thats currently out there. And yep it costs, because the "I wonna/must have a XR3" [showing my age now].... PC junkies think they must have it, nay need it.

Try this firm http://tinyurl.com/3q4xk they will upgrade to a bigger monitor, graphics card whatever. Tell em what you want the PC for. They will tell you what you really need, as against what you think you need.

I know you just love it when I'm dominant with you    ::) ;)

  Thanks tony, you are almost right, yes.

I want a fast gaming computer with the best graphics, (which I think is 256mb radeon x800) and quite a bit of memory. And a big screen. And I'd like all the extra's TV ready -Firewire card-network ready- etc etc.

I want the best I can get cos I know next year its gonna be way behind again, and the latest games are gonna run slow on it otherwise. lol

So it turns out to be the top spec puter, but alas I can't afford an XR3 Softtop so same as when I was 20 I'm gonna have to buy and 1.4s Escort with a sunroof lol tis true.

I thought oh no, that link is Tiny but its not it goes to CCL computers - so I'll have a look at them.

Ta tony,.  :-*

back to this old chestnut again.  I've STILL not bought my new puter!

But I've just seen this one, that ALDI are doing, what do you think of it? Not quite as good as I've been looking at but I'm sure it's probably as much as I need. Dubious that the graphics will be as good as they say, but it has to be better than I've got.

Lona is very pleased with hers Michelle.
You have to get up early and be at the store before they open as they usually dont have many and sell out quickly  :(

If its the same GFX card as hers then its a PCI express one, which is better than what you have been looking at if you have been looking at AGP GFX cards   :)

Sprechen Sie Deutsch ?

If so have a look at this review or ask a friend or babelfish to translate it but I think it will do all you need.

OEM is original equipment manufacture, ie the components will have been bought in bulk and not individually as a retail boxed component. This wont make any difference to you as its already assembled. Sometines if you buy OEM stuff then cables or the drivers arent included and stuff like that  :)

Thanks for your comment Sandra, it means alot to me, I'll look at the review.

I was looking at getting the 256mb ATI Radeon X800 pro - which is better than this one but twice the price. And probably much more than I'd need. I suppose

ahhh to getting there before they open, I'll be at work, was thinking about going after work .  oh dammit, why can't you buy it online.

Thinking of calling a sicky now

Cammy, yeah I saw it after I'd posted this
