Changing OS To Linux
« on: October 30, 2004, 19:48 »
I was thinking,

As some of you may have read, I'm building a new system very soon...

What if I ONLY installed Linux?
I have never actually used it before but I have read that it is quite good...

What do you think?

It takes some getting used to but usually installs without any problems. To try and see if you would like it try downloading:
http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html

It's a 'live' version of Linux that boots and runs from the CD - you don't even need to have a hard drive installed to run it. Check to see if it finds all the bits of hardware for your machine and see what you think of trying to run Linux only.
hey promised the earth! Then delivered mud.
Technically it did meet the spec.

Would that work on my existing system?
or does it only work when there isn't already an OS installed?

Will work with your existing machine - it's a bootable CD but you can still acess your hard discs if they are there. As soon as you shutit down your machine is as it was before. Worth trying just to see WINE running Microsoft applications such as Word under Linux :)
