Start up apps
« on: October 19, 2004, 20:03 »
Hi all,
hope this is the correct area to post this topic.
I am noticing that when running adaware scan, it states that I have 25 processes running.
I am not sure how much system resources these processes are tying up, have not looked, but the number just seemed high to me.
I had read some posts here in the past, re: start-up, and have looked at the processes running on my tube at start up using msconfig.
Nothing appears to be malicious, but at the same time, it seems to be too many.
Is there a way I can copy the names of those processes that are running, so i can post them here to be audited by the pro's?
I use Norton antivirus and Zone Alarm.
I scan with Adaware(free version) frequently.
Running windows 98se.
I had posted a topic a while back, that lists my pc's components.
At that time I had a problem with IRQ's, after adding an additional hard drive.
So, my hope from this post is to gain some insight on how to list my start up processes here, so i can find which, if any, can be disabled in order to free up resources.
    Thanks

If it's any consolation, my Ad Aware reports 34 running processes, so I wouldn't consider 25 over the top.  If AA reports nothing malicious, you've done current virus scans, with Norton regularly updated, and your PC is running OK, you probably don't need to be too concerned.  The only thing which might be worth considering is an upgrade to XP, as Micro$oft no longer supports Win 98.
Many thanks to all our members, who have made PC Pals such an outstanding success!   :thumb:
