Software deleation problem
« on: November 14, 2004, 10:54 »
Hi
I have had to purchase an upgrade for Norton antivirus software because Norton will not let me renew my subscription for virus updates. The old version they no longer support. I am running Windows ME and using Norton Anitvirus 2001 which is part of Norton Systems works. When trying to install the upgrade to 2005
the software tells me to deleate the old one first. Thats when the problem began. If I try to remove it I get the following Windows error message.
161 : Uninstall log folder not found
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\(Product CurrentVersion)\Uninstall Log Folder

Can anyone help as I stuck with 2001 with no live updates
and cannot install 2005, it will not let you until 2001 removed.
Kind regards

Not really sure if my suuggestion will be effectif. But in my experience, I found the best way to remove the NAV is to insert the NAV CD in the player, and double click on "Set-Up", (As if I'm making a new install), but choosing the option "Uninstall" there when it pops up.

If not having a CD, Double click on "Set-Up", and doing the same thing.

Anyway, techies are there to help when they get here as you know.

Hi joudi
Thank you for your very kind reply. Sorry it took so long but has there been a problem on this site as it is running very very slow.Have asked a pc expert friend of mine today. He came back with an answer to my problem, a file removal programe on the Symantec web site. Just downloaded and used it. Norton AV 2001 now gone and 2005 up and running. It's a shame that the Symantec software does not help in anyway. Would presume an update would
do what it says upgrade your software. Not let you search round for a way to remove the original program.
Kind regards to all you nice people

Hi JK, I think that you may not have noticed that Simon posted a link to that site on the 14th.
If you had clicked This on his post then it would have opened the Symantec webpage with the removal program on it  :)
