Can't open links with IE
« on: November 26, 2004, 23:38 »
I know we've had this before, but I can't find it!    Anyway, Lona, you might be able to help with this, as I think it was you who had the 'links won't open in IE' problem?  How did you get round it?  This isn't for me, but I recommended Firefox to a friend, who tried it and got all sorts of strange things happening, so uninstalled it again, and now IE is buggered.  Won't open links from e-mails, or anything else.

If it wasn't Lona, can someone else help, please?  I've suggested all the usual things to make sure IE is the default browser, but nothing seems to be working.

I can't suggest more than what I posted some days ago in the section "Tips, Tricks & Tweaks":

Unfortunately, it's in french, (seems doesn't exist in English).

And what I imagine, you've probably suggested uninstalling and reinstalling IE.

Thanks Joudi, but I've done some more searching, and come up with a couple of things to try:-

1) Launch IE, go to Tools & then Internet Options;
2) On the General tab (which it launches to) delete cookies and temporary internet files, including all offline content;
3) Go to Advanced tab, lower right, click on restore defaults and click Apply;
4) Go to Programs tab, middle left, click on reset web setting, (recommend you deselect reset homepage);
5) Go to Privacy tab (if present), if Default Levels button is active click it;
6) Go to Security tab and for each zone set levels to Default Levels if said button is active; click OK.

If that doesn't work, then do all of the following, clicking OK after each:-

Start-->Run-->regsvr32 urlmon.dll
Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Msjava.dll
Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Browseui.dll
Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Shell32.dll

I'll update this tomorrow, when I find out if anything has worked.  :)

I think that Lonas problem was caused by ZA, try disabling whatever firewall it has before doing anything else Simon  :)

Funnily enough, I usually think of that, but didn't this time - thanks Sandra.

Edit:- I have just been informed that the first method in my post above worked, so it wasn't the firewall anyway, which is Norton, by the way.   :)
