I am running WinXP with SB2 (I think that's what it is called).  I cannot acces Ebay (won't let me sign in...just stops) or Webshots (same thing).  I can't figure out how to allow those.  I have my firewall set to the lowest.  In order to access these sites, I have to disable the firewall and then I forget to enable it again.  Help!

Hello and :welcome:

SP2 of XP comes with it's own firewall installed which may be conflicting with the Norton product.

Start -> Control Panel

Then click on Firewall and have a look at the settings there.

Start -> Control Panel

Then have a look in "security centre" to see what firewall XP is trying to use.
hey promised the earth! Then delivered mud.
Technically it did meet the spec.

Hi Judy, in my version of norton firewall if you open it up and go to options and then advanced options under the general tab, you can add the url of the sites that its blocking.
Just click on Add site, copy and paste the sites url in and then click apply and it should allow it  :)

I disabled #2's firewall as soon as it was installed.  It's the Norton Personal Firewall 2003 that is causing the problem.  My version doesn't have an advanced tab under General.  What's the point of renewing the subscription if it doesn't upgrade to the newest version?  Stupid me.  Norton is just about the hardest thing to uninstall, too.  The ebay URL is http://hub.ebay.com/?ssPageName=h:h:home:US

Thats strange mines the 2003 version too  ???
Theres the general tab and then it has 4 buttons, top one is View Event Log, below that is View Statistics below that is Clear Status and right at the bottom it has Advanced Options on mine  ???

Oops, mines the 2002 version sorry  :-[
I had 2003 on at one time and found it not as easy to configure as the 2002 so went back to that one  :(

Maybe I should just disable the Norton and go with the one on the XP SP2.  This is crazy!  Anyone with a 2003 version of firewall?

It's unusual for a firewall to block just one website.  Assuning you are using Internet Explorer, have you tried removing it from the programs list in Norton Firewall?  Next time you start IE, Norton should ask for permission again.  Also, have you tried accessing eBay by just the usual www.ebay.com url?

With Webshots, it should again be a simple matter of removing it from the programs list, and let Norton ask for permission again, unless, of course, Webshots isn't compatible with SP2.  I've never used Webshots myself, is there an updated version you could try?

Thanks everyone but I think I'm just going to give up.  Little warning bells are going off in my head that, if I screw around with this anymore, I'll crash the whole thing.  I've tried everything and even found things I didn't know I had.  I'm afraid to go further.  BTW, can't get logged onto eBay unless firewall is disabled (even directly) and Webshots is hit and miss.  Thanks for your help. - Judy

As you are very new to PC-Pals Judy then you wont realise that we dont give up that easily  :)

Ok lets get this sorted, have a look at this page :

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/fun/norton2003help.asp

Follow the instructions down to step 4 and put the address of the sites that you are having problems with instead of rbma.com and you should be fine  :)

Hi Judy,

 download the free ZoneAlarm firewall http://tinyurl.com/ly42

I've used it all my Web life never had a moments trouble with it or a virus. Personally I'd dump Norton Firewall, but if you want, for now just install ZoneAlarm , disable Norton firewall. if you can then get all the pages you want OK uninstall Norton Firewall ;D

But never never connect to the web without a firewall being instaled first.

Goodluck with whatever you do.....but just do as I tell ya ::)and you will be sorted, if Norton is the problem. If your problem persists with Zonealarm running and Norton not, it aint Norton thats the problem.

Its a process of elimination without you going onto the web without a firewall up and running.

I do use Norton Anti Virus, thats good, and I'm running XP Pro SP2 with the XP firewall disabled.

Thank you!  Thank you!  I love your graphics.  I did the Seattle Times thing and it works!  Such a relief!  Tony, I'll keep your suggestion about ZoneAlarm handy.  I first used that several years ago and it was pretty bad.  Probably better now.  Merry Christmas! - Judy :clap:

Glad to hear its sorted Judy  :)
A lot of people dont like norton av and firewall for some reason but I have always used them and apart from a similar problem that you were having with 2003 which I couldnt find the answer to at the time so I reverted back to 2002. I have never had a virus or a trojan get through, nortons works fine for me  :)
