Topic: Problems with Video

8)Not sure if you can help me with this but here goes. I have a MSI 6734 KM4M-L mobo with AMD XP 2200+ CPU. When booting the system everything seems ok, fans are working, CDROM is accessed, hard drive is accessed, but no video. I tried on-board video and AGP card. Monitor says cable is connected but no signal. Any idea? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Depending on whether you are using an AGP graphics card, or on board VGA, have you enabled the correct one in the BIOS?  If you are using a graphics card, I think you need to disable the onboard VGA, and have it boot from the AGP slot.

That is the problem, there is no video signal so I can't get into the bios. There are also no beep codes. The monitor works on another system.

If you have an AGP card and onboard grahics then remove the AGP card and use the clear CMOS jumper to reset the bios to its defaults and it should use the onboard graphics.
If its ok as that then refit the AGP card and see if it installs and works from that as it may be a faulty card

I tried clearning CMOS and no help. I suspect the mobo but since there are no beep codes I thought maybe I missed something. I don't know much about overclocking, but does this sound like something that might happen if the video was overclocked?

Is this a new build or have you added something and its just started doing this  
Clearing the CMOS shoudl have reset the clock speed to its default one so it shouldnt be overclocked now

Sorry I should have explained that one better. I don't know that is was overclocked, I suspect that the person that sent it to me overclocked it and probably damaged the board. However, I thought that if there was a problem with the video I would get beep codes. Thanks.

Usually the beeps are memory or cpu related.
You didnt answer my previous questions though

This is a new install but the board is not new. I do not know if he overclocked because I can't view the bios. Clearing cmos did nothing.

Did you try it out with the AGP card removed after you had used the clear CMOS jumper

I tried with and without the AGP board after clearing cmos, still says video cable is connected, no signal.

Ok disconnect everything from your pc apart from the mouse and keyboard.
Disconnect all the hard drives and floppy and cd/dvd drives.
Just have the memory and cpu in place and see if you can get into bios.
If it still wont let you see the screen then check the cpu is seated correctly.
If everything seems to be in place then its looking like a faulty mobo/cpu

No problems as I would like to find out what it is  
You could also pull any other PCI cards out too, just to see if the monitor will light up and enable you to get into the bios

Just a suggestion, but have you tried a different monitor cable?  Sometimes the basics can be overlooked.
