wen my pc boots up it freezes and i cant click on anything. i have reformatted n reformatted and is it the hdd??

Sounds like a hardware problem.  Try reseating your graphics card.

If you really do think it is the HDD, and it doesn't sound like it to me, have you got a spare computer to try it in?

I would suggest that you first open the case and as Simon advises check that the graphics card is fully seated, plus any other cards you might have.  Check that all the cables are firmly home (but be careful that you don't bend the motherboard) and then restart the computer.  If it still freezes, switch off and then restart in Safe Mode.  If it freezes in Safe Mode, then my guess would be that your motherboard is either shorting, or is simply knackered.

Just the other day my folks computer started pulling the same crum. All i had to do to fix the problem was clean the matted dust off the processor fan and clean the video card off. Works better than it has in months now.

The other problems that ive experienced that will cause it to slow down and restart would be

1. viral (make sure your virus scanner is up to date and ur up to date on your patches)
Formatting will not clean the viruses off the disk You need to repartician to completely clean the disk.
2. If your hard drive is grinding away (making loud grinding noises) that might be the problem, but it's highly unlikely otherwise.
3. Video card could be crumming out, just exchange it out with another to check.
4 voltage problems (either too much stuff on one outlet, or no ground) To check, just move to a different outlet.

Those are the most recent fixes ive come across for when a computer starts to freeze.

I'm inclined to think that your PC might be overheating, Jon.  Try dousing the flames in your room and see if that makes a difference.
