Netdaemon?
« on: January 15, 2005, 17:47 »
Can anyone tell me what the following entry in my HJT log is?  I have Googled it but can only seem to find other people with the same, but not what it actually is.  I'm sure I have something iffy on my PC, because often (but not always) when I start up, IE tries to establish a connection, without being launched, but Ad Aware / Spybot scans reveal nothing untoward.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [netdaemon] c:\windows\system32\netdaemon /v

Arghhhhhhh Its a badie.. It tries to stop spybot adaware etc

See http://computercops.biz/startuplist-6807.html

If you use http://www.hijackthis.de it will analyse logs, but it didn't tell me anything about netdaemon in this instance.

I think you should restart in safe mode and run hijack this to fix it.

Good Luck

Youre correct DJ, looking at this I found :

Also fix this one:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [netdaemon] C:\WINDOWS\system32\netdaemon /v

Reboot, delete the C:\WINDOWS\system32\netdaemon.exe file. If necessary, first end task on it using Task Manager.

It's malware that attempts to 'kill' a number of Antivirus and antispyware apps.

Thanks guys, got rid of it.   >:(  I'm surprised Ad Aware and Spybot both missed it, and that it got in in the first place, past Spyware Blaster.  Just goes to show, these progs are not foolproof.  I thought I'd post a HJT log, just in case there's anything else that's slipped through the net, but I think I know pretty much what everything is on here:-
