Okay now I've finally sorted the networking. :roll:

Is there anything I can do with a noisy fan ....... its not vacuum cleaner noisy but its noisier that my other two pc's put together when they are both on.

I'm not sure if it should be like this or if there is anything I can do about it.

??

Anyone have any idea's please.

It's probably just a lot more powerful than your other fan, Michelle. You'll get used to it after a while! Of course, if it's making grating, squeaking, or other 'odd' sorts of noises, it might warrant further investigation. 8)

ah you think thats all it is?

No its just whirring nicely but loudly. But it never seems to rest, my other one would come on now and then?

Faster chips mean that computers run much hotter Michelle. This means (as Simon said) that they have to install much more powerful fans these days.

Mine is always on as well, Michelle. I think it's only when it starts making erratic noises, or actually stops, you need to worry. Just be thankful it's looking after your new turbo-charged CPU!

When I got my new PC I nearly phoned up customer service. I thought pc was going to take off to the moon. The noise was almost as loud as a washing machine spinning at high speed. I actually switched it off as I thought there must be something gone wrong. My old pc, the fan only came on now and again.

I have got used to it now but find when I run adaware or Norton Anti virus the fan gets really noisy.

So its a case of put up and shut up then. lol I don't think mine is that bad lona. But I can just hear it over the radio now, which isn't on loud.

I guess you can buy quieter good fans that could do the job so something to thing about for the future.

Well Michelle,

It seems that you probably need to buy a new fan, especially if yours is relativly old.

I was obliged to change mine last month. It arrived to a point of making noise similar to a car engin at its (car) start point. I really was surprised of that high noise. Wondering how it could produce it. :shock: I had to louden my television not far from the maximum, (worried to disturb neighbours).

It started making high noise for about three weeks. But at that night, I was obliged to switch my PC off till next day to buy a new one.

It was on my PC a little more than three years.

Next day I bought a new one. That was really amazing. They are making very silent ones these days.

If you decide to buy a new one, probably you should buy it accompanied with its aluminium base, and pay for both. So, you have to see for that.

Sorry to hear about your fan jordi - glad its fine now.

But my fan is new! Little over 3 weeks :shock:

Have you doubted that it might be toutching a cable or something else if you open your case (tower) Michelle? :shock:

erm.......

It makes a lovely whirring noise,(Just a loud one.) there's nothing touching it.

I guess I could open it and have a look but wouldn't that affect my guarentee?

Well, it depends.

Some companies allow you to open the case. While others limit their guarantee to that.

You may call them, and explain your problem. :roll:

Just thought I'd share this with you, I found this help thing on my computer with all details of my computer and everything, its quite helpful lol

My PC seems to be excessively noisy, is there anything I can do about this?

Whilst perceptions of acceptable noise level are subjective and difficult to quantify we do find that people who have been used to a Pentium III system with only a CPU fan and a power supply fan often find a high performance Pentium IV or Athlon machine to be relatively noisy. Most consider the noise to be an acceptable trade off for the high performance. An Athlon system, for example, contains a CPU fan, a power supply fan, a case fan, a chipset fan on the motherboard and often a graphics card fan.

If the fans are working properly they should operate with a steady hum without changing pitch. If any one of the fans appears to be making a grinding noise then it has a dry bearing and needs to be replaced. Open the side of the case and listen carefully, if you think that any of the fans are faulty please contact out technical support department who will be happy to advise you.
