Hey its me again.

Okay .....

I've got office 97 on my old computer and office 2003 on my new one, the old one is registered and works etc, but office 2003 isn't as it was just installed but I don't have the key.

But I can't transfer office 97 over to my new computer.

It won't open.

Is this because 2003 is on there? should I delete 2003 first and try it, I didn't want to do that incase at some point I erm want to use it, but I guess then I would have a disc.

I was hoping the number for 97 would go in the 2003 but alas it doesn't.

What do you think?

Why the hell do you want to substitute Office 2003 for a much older version?    You'll probably find it won't install, because it's too out of date.  Out with the old, and in with the new, mate!  Office 2003 is excellent!

Sorry, that may have sounded a bit short!    I thought you said in your first post that Office 2003 is already on your new machine, and you wanted to swap it for Office '97!  On second reading, I understand what you mean, but it seems strange to me that someone would have installed Office 2003, without registering it.  What do they expect you to do with it, if it won't work?  Personally, I would go back to the vendors (of the new PC), and ask them for the key.  It may simply be on a document they forgot to give you.  Failing that, I'm sure you can find a key somewhere.    I certainly wouldn't advise you to go back to Office '97 at this stage.

P.S. Check your AOL mail.   :not:

I dunno why they put it on, it didn't come free with the machine, only that Microsoft works.

Microsoft Works is perfectly functional, but a poor relation to Office, and you won't be able to open Word, or other Office files in Works, unless I am mistaken.  I have to have both, because I still have some old accounts in Works, which I should keep for 6 years.

What with Dave's contribution, and what I have sent you, you should be able to get it up and running.  ;)

Not sure about that, Terry.  I upgraded from Office XP to Office 2003, but I can't remember if I overlaid the new version or not.  It's usually a better idea to uninstall the old version of most things, as you will know, and Office 2003 should reassociate itself with all your existing Office files.  You'll just have some nice new icons.  :)
