I don't think a 'good browser' alone will stop all spyware from getting through, although I would have no hesitation in recommending Firefox, or the Mozilla Suite (links in my sig), which are both less prone to nasties, as they are not targeted by spyware / adware / virus / trojan writers, in the same measure that IE is.  What you need, in addition to a decent browser, is Spyware Blaster, which stops spyware from getting through, providing you keep it updated regularly.

Hi Matt,

Mozilla and Firefox both have built in pop up blockers, which are better than any third party ones I have found.  You do have to switch them on in the Preferences menu.  Mozilla is an all-in-one browser / mail client / HTML editor, while Firefox is just a stand alone browser.  Both will import all your IE settings and Favourites (Bookmarks), so you have nothing to lose by trying them.  You can, of course, continue to use Windows Firewall also.  They are also both highly configurable, with lots of extra plug ins available, easily installed from http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/
