I gets back in this afternoon, hits the Firefox quicklaunch and my pc crashes :roll:

So when i get back on firefox wont load and just has a blank page with the browser shell there but nothing will work :roll:

So i run all my AV and spyware stuff, uninstall firefox and reinstall it and try a older version but it's still the same. I even downloaded it again but still no joy :roll:

IE is working fine but i didn't realise how slow it was compred to firefox

Any of you got any ideas?

In the mean time i'll try a system restore then post back here

I've restored to yesterday and now it wont load at all :roll:

Any ideas guys?

Hi, Cammie.

A bit of a long shot, but when you uninstalled Firefox, did you search for any remaining folders/sub folders and manually delete them? I had a similar problem with Digiguide last week. I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times to no avail. I hten searched for anything called "digiguide" deleted several files and folder, ran Regcleaner and my parents had a brother called Robert.

If it's really not going to work after all that, and you don't fancy a format, PM me as I might have an alternative for the time being. :twisted:

Cammy, it sounds like somehow your Firefox profile has been damaged. Unfortunately, it will mean setting it all up again, including reinstalling any plugins you were using, but this is what you need to do. First uninstall Firefox, then navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\[yourname]\Application Data\Mozilla(if present)\Firefox\Profiles\[xnxnxnxnx]. When there, if you have stored Bookmarks since using Firefox, open the folder and take a back up of the 'Bookmarks' file, for future use, then move the entire Firefox folder to another location. If you also have passwords saved, you can back up the 'key3' database file, and the 'signons' text file. When you then re-install Firefox, it will create a new profile. You can then go back into the new profile and overwrite the Bookmarks file, if you want to preserve your Firefox Bookmarks, and the same with the passwords (key3.db, and signons.txt), if you also have Passwords stored. You may have to create a saved password first, in order for there to be a 'signons.txt' file to overwrite.

I serched and removed all traces then downloaded a new version but i still just get the shell and no home page.

The only button that works is the green arrow to check for updates and it searches ok and my router flashes ok as if it's working but still no pages :roll:

I tried it with my router firewall off BTW just incase but that wasn't any different :?

Probably too late, but just a thought -- you hadn't selected Use Blank as your home page in the Options, had you? :?

Anyway, when you've done this new installation, take a backup of your Profile, Cammy, then you might not have to go through it all again, if you have any other problems.

Something similar happened to me a couple of days ago shortly after an automatic Firefox upgrade. I ended up uninstalling the browser completely and using MS IE to download and re-install the entire program.

Next, I ran a virus check with AntiVir and found I had the VBS/Psyme.AP virus. It's the first time I've ever had a computer virus (that I've known about)! AntiVir duly cleaned up the mess.

Since I run virus checks every week and the Firefox upgrade was the only software that I had downloaded since the previous check, I can't help but wonder if the two events were related.

I followed your first post to a T and everything worked

It even saved the passwords straight off

Yup Tony i didn't realise how slow ie was untill i had to use it again :shock:

Hi, Gill.

Although (as you will know) it is possible to pick up a virus just by visiting a web page these days, it might be a good idea to let Mozilla know of this just in case they have an infected file on their downloads page.

Having said that, I would guess the virus was imbedded on a web page you visited.

i had a problem like that just an hour ago. i came home from school, turned on my pc and bam! antivirus warning all over the screen, about firefox, and then it got deleted, and then my files went too! i then got the BSOD. i rebooted, and its fine now. i think it had to with flashmx, cuz all was fine till i installed it after firefox.

A strange coincidence, Matt. I have been using FF 1.0.3 without any problems. If you get the virus thing again, try to note exactly where the virus is supposed to be.

does that mean you have finally come over from the old Moz browser ?.....at last :wink:
