Can you tell us at which point you get the error message, and what you are trying to do at the time?

A long shot, but might be worth double checking you have the right drivers to make it run on the W98 machine.

Thanks for your reply.
I am trying to scan a document, but when I click the on-screen scan button the error appears.I will double check the drivers to see if it makes any difference but i thought they would have been installed from the installation disk?

I assume its a USB connection ?
Does any other USB equipment work ?
It may be that your USB ports arent enabled in the BIOS.
Check in the Device Manager and see if it lists anything under USB controllers and such.
If you dont know where Device Manager is then right click on My Computer and select properties than look under hardware  :)

Thank-you for your replies,
I have up-to-date drivers,my camera and printer work o.k. from the u.s.b.
Could I copy the relevent files from my laptop as the scanner works from that?I have both computers networked.
I am only guessing as I don't know much about these things.

Its been some time since I last made contact on the scanner problem I have. The information last requested is as follows
In device manager under U.S.B. Controllers is
Generic usb hub--listed under power properties is-- h.i.d compliant mouse
100ma 3 ports available 0ma

Also listed is ---Intel 82810aa usb universal host controller.

Lastly listed is---usb hub root --canon canoscan 3000  10ma
generic usb hub (4ports available).

I have tried uninstalling everything associated with the scanner and re-installing from the disc supplied as per instructions but getting nowhere.

Any further suggestions appreciated----------- no hurry for your reply

thankyou
