pipex broadband
« on: May 15, 2005, 18:35 »
i got pipex after simon recommended it and i am to impressed so far.. i have done speed tests and once it was running at 0.2 mb and every time i am on xbox live and i am the host.. the whole game lags and it is rare i play a game that doesnt lag and none of my friends have that problem and they pay less for there broadband.. i have done all the tweaks available and there is not much of an improvement and i cant cancel coz if you cancel in the first year it costs 60 quid!!!

is there anything i can do to improve my speed.. baring in mind i have done most tweaks.. i have pipex 1mb and i use a wireless router

p.s my mums computer is on wireless donwstairs and it is runnin at 1.6mb

what shall i do  :?

Your best bet is probably to contact support@dsl.pipex.com, and explain your situation, but check back here later, in case someone has an idea.  To be honest, I don't really understand your question!

Oh, just thought of something - which Pipex service are you using?  If you are you using one of the Lite services, there are limitations with those.

Sorry !  I'm not here to add an answer, but a little remark:

How come that this post is viewed more than 130 times till now, in just about two hours?     :scratchit:

Normally, our forum was almost comletely empty of members and visitors today.  Where did that number of "Views" come from?

Well spotted Joudi!  That's very intruiging.  I can only suggest that it might be a plague of searchengine webcrawlers (bots) but that number seems very excessive so I'm probably wrong.  Maybe Sam can shed some light on it?

Are you by any chance using a Linksys router POD?

It's just that a lot of people have had xbox live disconnecton problems with linksys routers and the answer was to downgrade the firmware.

The xbox live website says that the following routers are suitable to use with it...

http://www.xbox.com/en-IE/live/start/connect/faq/routers.htm

Incidentally, are you using any additional firewalls to the one provided by the router?

I would try disabling McAfee firewall because your inbuilt router firewall will be much better anyway.  Obviously make sure your router firewall is  switched on and check it out using Shields Up.  There isn't much point in having two firewalls as that could cause endless problems.

What should you do?  Chill out - that's what!   8)   Those registry cleaners will always find hundreds of faults even on a brand new installation of Windows.  It's extremely unlikely that your x-box problem is linked to a registry fault.

Same here Pod, I was doing a lot of downloading and got disconnected. When I tried to reconnect I got error 721 (isp not responding)

I phoned techinical support and after 3 phonecalls, (the first 2 kept me hanging on for 10 minutes and then said "Too busy ring back tomorrow")

Just like you I got a load of rubbish told to me as well but after hanging up the phone I connected immediately.

Pipex is not the same since taking on all those freeloaders
