Well Michelle, I'll try to translate from French. No doubt, you'll find what's equivalent to it in English:

Go to Control panel, and then to "Adminitration Tools", and take "Services".

You need to see if one of those two is desactivated. You'll need to reactivate it:

1 - Cards of WMI performace on manual.   (Remember!!!   I'm translating it from French)

2 - Extension of the Pilote WMI.    (Maybe in English, instead of "Pilote" you'll find it as "Driver")

I hope that helps.    :)

Thanks Joudi - one of them was deactivated ..... I can't find the first one, but then second one was stopped.  Nothing seems to have changed, maybe I need a restart.

Thanks for that lona, it looks very complicated, I tried one of the options but it won't let me make changes.

Sandra, it seems to affect a few things? I've never even come across it before .

I came across this Michelle :

WMI Utilities
Download Microsoft WMITools. These use ActiveX, so must be run using Internet Explorer (not Mozilla/Netscape browsers) and active must be allowed.

Did you try it in IE and not mozilla ?

I still cant see why you should need it though   :?

Try this Michelle, it may be that the XP built in firewall needs to allow it :

1. Click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
2. Under Console Root, expand Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand Network, expand Network Connections, expand Windows Firewall, and then click Domain Profile.
3. Right-click Windows Firewall: Allow remote administration exception, and then click Properties.
4. Click Enabled, and then click OK.

Also check that if you are using another firewall that its not that stopping it too, try temporarily disabling it and see if it works  :)

I only reinstalled windows yesterday joudi :(   for the 3rd time

In case nothing works Michelle, I still have this question:

those three times Windows reinstallation; were on clean HDD or you permetted XP to format it and reinstall in its' place?

If you've formatted your HDD by XP; I suggest that you use another thing for that. Because "Windows XP" doesn't clean it correctly.

I usually use "Partition Magic". Do you have it?

Try it, and probably you'll not regret.    :)

okay .....

first - I was using AOL to download, which uses IE but I could try just going through IE I don't need AOL. Maybe I don't have activeX though? I have had to download shockwave and all of those types of things again.

second - gpedit.msc  is not recognised in "run" but I have tried turning off the firewall see if anything is disturbed by it.

Thirdly - Not sure if this will help at this stage, but after I told mesh, if I have any more problems I am returning for a refund, they said they had "GOT HOLD OF" the motherboard CD ! And they are sending it to me.

Got hold of????? Clowns!

Thirdly - So the only thing I can't seem to do - right now is set up sharing on the network - the network help page I was using has ceased to be as he said it was too expensive to keep up. So maybe I've put in the wrong numbers in the set up, I had to fill in the DNS server and the Gateway with my IP address I think, but the page I'm looking at isn't as clear as the last one.   :(

And last but not least.

Joudi - The last time we deleted the partition and created a new partition before we installed.  I don't have partition magic no.

OOh I went into control panel and windows firewall to see if I could see anythink like sandra said, and on advanced it says.

Your network settings have become corrupt please click reset settings to correct this. This well delete your settings for windows firewall and might cause some programmes to stop working.

Should I click it?  :?

I couldn't stand it, so I clicked it and I have back the settings in networking!!! All set up now :-)

HOW ODD IS THAT !?!?!

SO PANIC OVER ....... thanks sandra and everyone for that one........ lets see whats next lol xxxxxxxx
