Reinstall Outlook Express 6
« on: July 12, 2005, 12:57 »
Hi All,

I'm having problems with Outlook Express 6. When trying to create an email it states 'Address Book Failed To Load' then 'Please Reconfigure Outlook Express'.

I have succesfully uninstalled it using the instructions from:

http://www.activewin.com/tips/tips/microsoft/winxp/advanced/8.shtml

But when trying to reinstall outlook express 6 (after downloading ie6setupoe.exe from microsoft) it states:

'Setup has detected an earlier version and cannot continue'.

If I try and install it usin the /Q command it state Missing msjava.dll error then crashes.

How can I reinstall Outlook Express - its driving me mad

I have heard of a program called Your Uninstaller that I believe can remove hard to remove programs and al the bits that are often left behind.

Something like that may help but you may have to do a system restore to before you tried removing IE to enable it to work properly.

Ok Thanks Sandra.

Will have a look into that program.

I might just ditch outlook express and go with Thunderbird or something else. I'm not having any other problems with the PC - just with outlook express.

Will keep you updated...

Hi

Looking over the internet, the program mentioned above will not uninstall outlook express as its part of IE6.

Trying to uninstall IE6 is not succesful as it only has the option of repairing - which doesn't make any difference, or , revert back to an earlier version - which it won't do.

I think I'll ditch outlook express and try a different email client.

Is it possible to set up Outlook on two different User accounts in windows XP or would that cause big problems?

Too sunny to fix this now - think I'll have another look at it later!!

Looking on the main site DJ :

http://www.ursoftware.com/

It claims to be able to remove IE and shows the icon for it in the screenshot.
It even shows Outlook Express as a seperate icon too.
It even says it will remove parts left over from previous uninstall attempts  :?

:wtf:  :?:  :!:  :?:

I'll have another go later - think the best option is to try and install Outlook 2003 instead.

:thanks: for all your help.

Well I tried and tried to uninstall outlook express but it won't let me reinstall it (saying that there's a later version already installed).

So I decided to install Outlook instead.

Everythings working fine (for now).
