Thanks for all the suggestions, i have had no joy as yet, but i can't think of any other settings to try other than the b.band connections settings, it has options for connection sharing.... "services running on your computer that internet users can access" - that can't have any relevance can it? (return connection from the game server is my train of thought)

Other than that i will have to go over the norton thing again and see if i have miseed anything.

Why on earth is this proving so awkward!?

One thing that took me a while to sort out which restricted access to the suprnova site after they altered something for security at their end was something in my norton firewall called Echo Request.
I dont use Norton now so I cant think just where the option is exactly but if you go into the advanced settings of the firewall part there should be something to enable to Allow Echo Requests.
Thats about the only thing I can think of that would stop it getting online if the game server needs a reply :?

Its sometimes called a Referrer too, so if you cant find Echo Requests look for Allow Referrer

you may have tried this already (and i am not very clued up on PS2's), have you made sure that the PC is using the same Subnet Mask as the PC?

they both need to be set the same eg. 255.255.255.0 on both etc...

It will show it in the LAN properties of your pc, not sure how you will check your playstations one though :?

this is silly
i cant make the ...thing, ahem, work

the connection to the network seems ok as it sends data, (connection status window indicates it sent xxx-bytes), but doesn't receive.
Have i said this..?
no firewall - no differance.
playstation forums of no help.
Oh microsoft, you are so great...not.

i'm just missing something, probably obvious.

Any more thoughts very much appreciated.

Sorry if we've asked you this before, but have you turned off the built in Windows Firewall? You'll find it in Control Panel > Security Centre. At the risk of making myself sound silly, as I know nothing about networking, or PS2, does the PS2 have a network IP address? You might be able to create a Rule in Norton to force it to allow traffic both ways. In Norton 2005, open Firewall, then click Configure, then the Advanced tab.
You'll find a button to create General rules.
