I have set up home networking --(nearly)-- on desktop comp running windows 98se and on laptop with windows me,using broadband router.
Both computers can see each other and desktop can connect to internet.
my problem is my laptop is not connecting to internet.I also run
zone alarm firewall. Is this my problem or is laptop settings wrong?
Any help please.

If both pcs can see each that usually means that the firewall is set ok.

I would check your laptops LAN settings and internet connection properties.

Thanks for your reply.I am not sure I know where to check out my lan setting etc.and I dont want to make the situation worse. If it is any help I pinged the desktop comp and got an "unknown host "error.

Open the networkk connections folder on your laptop.
Right click on the LAN icon and select properties.
I think its your TCP/IP settings that arent correct.
Check that TCP/IP is listed in the first page of properties then check the properties of it if it is, make sure that DHCP is set to auto.

Get back to us if theres anything different that you come across or dont understand  :)

thanks again for your reply. I have found the problem and everything is o.k. The laptop setting I.S.P. was out by a couple of digits ,which I didnt notice before.
Thanks again.
