Supreme Dalek is sold at auction
« on: November 16, 2005, 22:16 »
A Dalek used to portray the leader of Dr Who's arch enemy has sold for £36,000 at Bonhams in London.

Painted in blue, silver and black and used as Dalek Supreme, it featured on the Radio Times cover in 1983 to mark the 20th anniversary of the BBC show.

In 1980, it took pride of place at an exhibit at Madame Tussaud's waxworks, accompanied by a model of actor Tom Baker as Dr Who.

Proceeds from the private sale went to The Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The Dalek was snapped up for more than three time its estimate by Bucks-based communications agency Indeprod, which intends to install the model in its reception area.

Lennon lyrics

The model was repaired after being blown up in the Destiny of the Daleks episode and scorch marks from the stunt still remain visible under its seat.

In February 1984, it was re-painted black and white for Resurrection of the Daleks before it making its final TV appearance the following year in Revelation of the Daleks.

It was restored to its Madame Tussaud's display form last year.

Among the other lots at the rock n' roll and film memorabilia sale were a number of items from the James Bond series.

The tunic worn by Donald Pleasance as Blofeld in You Only Live Twice sold for £25,200 while a prop Walther PPK from The Living Daylights made more than £6,000.

The auction continues on Thursday with a host of Beatles-related lots.

The highlights include John Lennon's handwritten lyrics for Give Peace A Chance from 1969, which are estimated to fetch between £175,000 and £200,000.
