Topic: Microsoft update

Hi,

Thought it had been a while since I posted a problem, so here goes.  8)

It isn't my wonderful computer    its me blokes (innit)

Since a recent update, every time he shuts down it says installing updates, this has been going on for at least a week, takes ages to shut done and seems to be done, yet the next shut down it does it again. I thought maybe he had missed out on a load of updates but it can't be that many.  What do you think is going on?

Maybe he's not leaving the PC running long enough for the updates to be installed?  This usually goes on in the background, so he may not know it's happening, apart from an icon in the system tray.

Was it update #2 from the November batch Michelle?  The same thing happened to me and the computer still hadn't shut down by the morning.  But it's been fine ever since.  Why not go to the Windows Update site and re-install it?

its running long enough..... we only notice when he shuts down and it says installing updates.....again! lol


yeah might be worth a try reinstalling..... its not really a problem, it doesn't take all night - only like 10 mins, but its not right.

What does it say when you go into Windows Updates/Review your updates history?  

Mine claims that that update was sucessful despite the fact that it said "installing update - do not turn off your computer" all night.  I had to pull the plug out to turn it off but it re-booted normally with no further install messages.

I would turn off automatic updates as well, Michelle.  That might do the trick.  Then go in at bedtime and update manually.

I never leave automatic updates on.

well the best option is to get windows to notify you there are new updates via the menu.

ever since i installed sp2 on my laptop it no longer shuts down properly, which is not at all useful - bloody microsoft
