Codecs?
« on: May 31, 2006, 10:49 »
I have recently installed WinAVIVIDEOConverter, now it wants Quicktime 6.5 or higher.
I don't want to start downloading different bits for this, that and the other.

I have Windows Media Player 10, thinking of trying 11 Beta, have no idea if it will be any better.

What I would like is an all in one Codec that's compatible with Windows and won't need yet another thing to be installed.

Would Codec All-in-1 6.0.3.0. be the best? :?

Go here and download Quicktime Alternative MB :

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm

Also on the bottom left side of that page under TOOLS get Real Alternative too.

Both of those free programs just install whats necessary to play Quicktime and Real files without all the rubbish that gets installed with the full versions.

I dont think that the Beta version of 11 will have much benefits as far as codecs go over v 10.

I prefer the VLC media player to windows media players.
Its a free program available from here :

Hi Sandra how was the dentist?

I already downloaded and installed Codec All-in-1, well I thought I had.
When I went looking for it, it's still only the .exe file. I have already tried to install it. Should I just delete it and use the ones you have suggested?

The dentist is at 4pm MB, its only 12-15pm here now, so I havent been awake long  :)

If its only showing the exe it sounds like its not installed.
I would just install the 3 things that I mentioned earlier.

Sometimes you can get one version of a codec conflicting with another of the same type but its rare.
Some programs remove one and replace it with their own version too.

Also when converting an AVI file to something else which is the best format to convert to, I have tried DVD and end up with seperate files for audio and vision. Or there is mini DVD, VCD, SVCD, MPEG1, MPEG2 or Non-standard VCD.  :?
I'm trying to burn to DVD, but Nero won't accept AVI files.

Good luck at the dentist then Sandra, I'm suppose to go and have my wisdom teeth out. Yeah right, I don't think so.

The Codec All-in-1 did install so I'll see how it goes, I can always delete it if it isn't any good.
I noticed when I converted an AVI file to DVD, that the audio was quite low and there was a loss in quality. Is there anything I can do about this.

I also read the Codec thread on the Medion Forum, shame I didn't read it first.

Thats how it should be MB.

If you open Nero and select burn a DVD you then add the Video_TS folder that WinAvi created.
Depending which version of Nero you are using it may want the Audio_TS folder too but thats usually empty, unless there are multiple languages for the soundtrack.

I dont know how to overcome the low volume, I dont think that its adjustable in the conversion  :?
