Can't Copy a Video CD
« on: January 15, 2006, 22:03 »
This afternoon, I made a video CD of my camping trips photos from 2005 accompanied by music, so that I can watch it on my TV via the DVD player.  I tried a new (to me) program called Proshow Gold and it worked perfectly, especially the synchronisation of the audio tracks and the piccies.

However, I now want to make a copy of the CD, but no matter what burning program I try to use it will not copy.  I started with Deepburner Pro, followed by Stomp RecordNowMax, but after reading the source disk and asking for a blank disk to go into the writer, both programs give me a "burn failed" message.

Thinking that my writer might be at fault, I tested it by copying a data CD, followed by an audio CD and they burned without any problem at all.  (Isn't it amazing that blank CDRs are so cheap these days that you can use them to test stuff and them use them as coasters.)

Exasperated, I installed Nero (even though I don't like it) to see if I would have any success with that.  Same thing - it reads the disk and creates the image but then the burn fails.

Has anybody any idea why this CD won't copy?

Thanks.   :)

In Nero, there is an option to 'copy protect' CDs and DVDs you burn.  Not having used Proshow Gold, I don't know if it has this option, but it sounds like this is what may have happened, Dave.  The other thing is, did you finalise the CD when you intially burned it?  I'm not sure if that would make any difference, but it might.  Only thing I can suggest is to have a look on Google, using something like 'remove copy protection', and you should get a whole list of applications to choose from.  ;)

Hi, Simon.

I've just been into Proshow Gold and I can't find any copy protect option within the program.  It's not really a big problem because I have saved the show on my hard drive, so I can always make another copy in Proshow Gold.  It's more annoying than anything else.

Thanks.

Well, I got it sorted, but I don't understand why!   :o

Using Nero, I tried a simulation.  It failed at the burning stage, but allowed me to create an error log.  Near the end of the log was the line:

"Could not start disk at once".

Not really knowing what this meant, I decided to see if I could turn this "Disk At Once" thing off.  There aren't any options to turn it off, just two settings; "Disk At Once" (on by default) and "Disk At Once/96".  I changed the setting to the latter and it burned!

Does anybody know why?  :?

I have never seen that Disc at once/96 only Disc at once and Track at once.

Certain AV formats have to be burned using TAO but I cant remember which ones.

I wonder if the DAO/96 is something to do with making them readable by earlier than XP operating systems ?
