I just got me a new toy at work. For just 25 bucks you can order one of your own.
http://www.pcimicro.com/.sc/ms/dd/ee/4902/Cosmos%20Super%20Link%203.5%22%3B%20Alumium%20External%20Box%20Enclosure
lets me hook up a hard drive through my usb port. Now i got 80gigs portable. Makes it easier to move my massive collections of bootleg s**t around now. And that grate has blue led stick lights to make it look cool at night.

...but surely you need one of those devices on every PC you are likely to want to use the portable hard drive with...? Or have I got it wrong?

Its just a box that you put your own hard drive in Simon so that you can connect it via USB and the power supply that presumably comes with it.
It works just like having an external USB hard drive but as this is just an empty box that you can use any of your own spare hard drives with and its usually easier to swap the drives than you can on some of the external USB hard drives.

Yep ive heard the same thing. With one their pretty stable, but when you use more than one the os has trouble differentiating which data streams which. So you end up with a bunch of corrupt files. Key note here is only use one at a time.
