Internet speed

Just a quickie

Does your broadband router have a direct effect on the speed of your connection. For example I have 2mb broadband connected through a netgear dg824m router.  The connection seems slower than other 2mb broadband that I have witnessed.

What else has an effect on the internet connection? Processor speed? Memory? BT Line?

Any suggestions on how I can increase the broadband speed is much appreciated.

Cheers :thumb:

Even a slow pc is much faster than a 2mb connection.

Its probably your BT line, unless your ISP is throttling some of your ports for some P2P activity that you are using.

I have 1MB broadband and it is just as fast (or should that be slow) as 2MB connections that I have used at other peoples' houses.  For example, if I'm feeling brave and download Windows Updates, I get a download speed of between 90KB/s and 120KB/s.  If I am at my sister's and download Windows Updates on her 2MB connection, the speed is exactly the same.  I suspect that the infrastructure isn't really up to anything more than 1MB.

Upstream    255 Kbps (31.9 KB/sec)    275 Kbps (inc. overheads)
