Can't delete registry keys
« on: April 10, 2006, 13:06 »
I have been having problems installing a program, and I suspect that registry keys left by a previous installation may be causing the issue.  I have run CCleaner, and AMUST Registry Cleaner, but neither can remove these entries, and when I try to manually remove them, I receive the error message:- "Cannot delete - error while deleting key".  How can I get rid of these seemingly 'locked' registry keys?  I can't use safe mode, as my PC won't boot into it for some reason, but that's another issue.

Have you tried using Your Uninstaller Simon, that often removes left over bits and cleans them from the registry.

Let me know if you cant find the program, if you havent already got it  :)

Yes, you found it for me before, San, and it was that which I uninstalled the product with.  It seems that something is making these keys inaccessible for deletion.

Nope - just learnt something new!  :)  By right clicking the key, selecting Permissions, and ticking the boxes to Allow Full Control, the keys can be deleted.  There doesn't seem to be an option to allow this globally though the registry, so it's a question of doing it for each key, but hopefully, this has done the job.
