Topic: Pentium D Processor

HI guys,


Just a question.....If I have bought the following spec CPU;

IntelŪ PentiumŪ Dual-Core Processor (2.6GHz x 2)

Do I have to do anything to make it work at the dual speed or does it do this automatically?

If the motherboard supports it then the bios should automatically detect it and run it as a dual core.

Is it a pentium D or is it a Core 2 Duo ?

Pentium D start with 8 or 9 such as 820 or 945 whereas Core 2 Duo start with E6 as in E6700.

My system is a Intel Pentium D 2.8ghz Socket 775.

Shouldnt be any problem with that CPU as all 775 mobos will run it as far as I know.
The later Core 2 Duos will physically fit as they are stil socket 775 but the bios and/or chipset wont always support them.

Sandra won't ban you - this is what we do here!    I have been following (well, reading) the thread, and there's nothing I can add that won't cock things up even more.  The only thing I would possibly do, if it were me, would be to go back to basics.  Check that all the connections are in the right order, and that all the drive jumpers are set correctly (cable select usually does it for me, but not sure if it's the same in SATA drives).  Get back to a place where everything is working correctly, and then you should be able to pinpoint the problem.

Have tried going back to basics....I am getting to the point where I want to set the HDD on fire!!! See if that works!
