Yes, but they all claim it to be clean.  I know that it's not because the HDD is often chattering away when the machine is idle.

That could be something genuine updating itself, but you can't be too careful.

I think it's Webshots.  It's a screensaver that generates some very pretty pictures but I think it contains spyware.

Yes, and I believe it also updates itself all the time too.  You could always try blocking it with the firewall.

I think Webshots is pretty unique, and I don't actually think it is dangerous as such.  It's just that the constant updating tends to slow down the machine.
