Eclipse
« on: May 31, 2006, 18:36 »
I have now left Pipex and have been on Eclipse for a couple of days.

Here's a copy of my download and upload speeds which are much lower after 6pm.

During 6pm and 12pm speeds are not as good as this is considered peak times.

Last night I was receiving much higher up and download speeds.

Downstream     3,534.6 Kbps     ( = 3.5 Mbps )
Upstream    372.6 Kbps    ( = 0.4 Mbps )

Presumably that's on a 4Mb service, Lona?  It would worry me if speeds were limited during peak hours.  :|

Actually, I'm not finding it all that easy to work out what is what.  Which package are you on, Lona?  From what I understand after reading the Fair Usage Policy, you should only be affected if you exceed the 'peak' limit of xGb per month (depending on which package you are on), which even on the cheapest deal, I find difficult to believe that you could have managed in a couple of days.  In fact, I feel that the Fair Usage policy is very, er, fair, and I would not dismiss Eclipse from my own shortlist of prospective providers, judging by what I have read so far, but if you are experiencing a slowdown during peak hours, this suggests a higher than acceptable contention ratio, which could be cause for concern.

Just an update about Eclipse.

They did say that during the first 10 days things would be irratic as BT would be testing the line.

My 10 days are just up and I must say today has been very good.

I am getting 4.5mb speed and I was told my exchange could only handle 5mb so that isn't too bad.

I have been well pleased today so will keep you all informed.  :)
