Thats an awkward one Mike, I dont like AOL, not many people do.
If you have kids then its probably one of the safest ones to be with though, due to its limitations and restrictions.

I am not keen on BT either, I think that youd be jumping from the frying pan into the fire if you went with them as they can give lousy service too.

To be honest I dont know who I would reccomend at the moment, its a minefiled out there these days

I would recommend doing some research on ISP Review, if you are looking for a new service provider, although you have to bear in mind that most people only report an ISP if they are having problems, so just because one doesn't appear, or has little in the way of feedback, doesn't necessarily mean it's bad.  It's a good place to start though, and should at least give you some idea of which ISPs are best avoided.  As Sandra said, it's hard to offer personal recommendations, as ISPs can be great one minute, and dire the next.
