Microsoft finally re-releases IE patch
« on: August 25, 2006, 16:42 »
Microsoft has finally re-released the long awaited the security patch that was supposed to be issued earlier this week.

The company had previously delayed re-releasing a security update, MS06-042, after discovering new flaws that could be exploited by hackers.

An IE security patch was released on 8 August, to address eight separate security problems in Internet Explorer. However the update caused Internet Explorer browsers to crash on Windows 2000 computers and on machines running Windows XP Service Pack 1.

?We've resolved the issues that delayed the re-release and have released the revised update. The revised update fully resolves the security vulnerability we discussed in the Advisory. We also have resolved the issues that we discovered prior to the planned release on Tuesday. We are now urging IE 6.0 SP1 customers to go ahead and deploy this revised update as soon as possible,? Microsoft said on its blog.

Until the final re-release of the update, people could apply a "hotfix" but customers needed to contact Microsoft to install it.
