Microsoft to issue six patches
« on: November 10, 2006, 16:05 »
Microsoft will issue six patches to fix vulnerabilities in the Windows operating system on Tuesday. Microsoft regularly sends out security updates on the second Tuesday of every month.

November will be a quieter month for the Microsoft security team - last month 10 patches were issued to fix 26 vulnerabilities in the Windows operating system and other Microsoft software products. It had planned to issue 11 fixes, but one was canned at the last minute.

At least two of the patches are rated 'critical', meaning that the vulnerabilities they are intended to fix could allow attackers to remotely control an affected PC.

Microsoft will be pleased that it is not sending out any patches for Internet Explorer 7, the latest version of its browser software, that was released last month. Internet Explorer 6 was notoriously insecure and it was rare that a month went by without Microsoft having to patch a vulnerability in the browser.
