Fraudsters are preparing to launch organised, large-scale attacks on online Christmas shoppers, security experts have warned.
According to security company PC Tools, one in 10 Christmas shoppers will be attacked when buying present on the internet.
Those doing their Christmas shopping online can expect to be targeted by malicious attacks as the numbers of harmful spyware programs and rootkits in circulation are on the rise, PC Tools claimed.
According to the company, holiday shopping is ideal for hackers who use spyware, keyloggers and phishing techniques to steal passwords and financial information from users.
Separately, a new survey from analysts at Gartner revealed that internet fraudsters are targeting wealthy internet users in the US.
The report said that people earning more than $100,000 (about £52,500) received on average 112 phishing emails in the past year compared to 74 emails received by those earning less.
