Topic: remote connection software ?

which is the best and affordable remote connection software? is there any free software apart from trial versions?
(for 2 pc's world apart)

If they are both using XP then it has its own built in program called Remote Assistance (RA), running through Windows Messenger.

Someone has to be at one pc to initially authorise the other pc to access it but it works quite well up to the point where you may need to reboot the remote pc, then you need someone there again to authorise you to access it.

The only problem with the Remote Assistance in XP is (I believe) one of the computers has to be running XP Pro and not XP Home. That is at least true for the "mstsc" application (Start > Run > type in "mstsc" > Enter/Ok).

Another good program is called RealVNC. I used this for awhile since I used to only have XP Home edition and I wanted access to my computer from anywhere. The free edition has very limited features, but I just noticed someone has made a program called TightVNC which seems to be an open-source version of RealVNC with all the same features. I haven't used this yet, but it looks pretty good.

both of the vnc programs you suggest are good Hiatus... I use both to cross my windows machine onto my laptop (mac osx) and my other desktop (ubuntu).
