Beatles and Oasis lead chart race
« on: November 22, 2006, 10:54 »
Oasis, Westlife and The Beatles are neck-and-neck in the race to top this week's UK album charts.

Love by the Beatles is outselling its rivals at music chain HMV, but it is only 200 sales ahead of Oasis' greatest hits collection, Stop The Clocks.

Record industry magazine Music Week argues that Oasis have taken the lead, with Westlife in second place and U2's 18 Singles compilation at number four.

Combined sales of the four albums are eventually expected to top one million.

With greatest hits collections from The Sugababes, Girls Aloud and George Michael already released, Razorlight's self-titled album could be the only record containing new songs in this week's top 10.

But this year's Christmas number one album may come from a different quarter altogether.

"Watch out for Take That, who might trump them all," said HMV's Gennaro Castaldo.

"Their comeback album, Beautiful World, is released next week and could make it a Take That Christmas."

The reformed boy band look set to have the number one single this weekend with their first release in 10 years, Patience.

The single charted at number four last week while still only available as a download.
