Repairing XP
« on: January 06, 2007, 16:50 »
For the last couple of weeks I have been having serious trouble with my O/S XP pro ,was closing all programs after it went into screen saver mode  ,then it comes up with an error message " There has been a serious error to the System ,it then asks me to send an error report which then freezes the PC , when repairing  XP from the CD I received an error message" msi DLL file is missing  surely it should be on the CD? well I have now removed most of my hardware ,it seems the problem is caused by the Driver for my printer Canon 6600D ,all seems well at the moment ,so heres hoping its o.k. any of you bright sparks any experience of this sort of thing?........Jim

Is it definitely msi and not msie?  Msie refers to Internet Explorer.

you might not have to do a compleat install

when you put the disc in a screen should come up asking what you want to do

if you click r it will sometimes do a repair by installing programs in xp pro

you still have to enter your codes but with my xp pro it saved all my programs

without a clean install

I got the error because i added new equipmet to my computer

Did some more research on MS Knowledge Base it seemed to indicate that it could be a trojan i.e.Haxdoor or sdbot
but AGV/McAfee/&Adware find nothing in the registry , checked the registry can't find anything !!

Dave did the repair same as you did was just saying I may to do a clean installl ....Jim
